Nance prefixes *cocla with an asterisk, which implies it's a direct  
borrowing from English cockle, itself borrowed from Norman French.
Lhuyds kûligi, on the other hand,  is presumably from *cochylia,  
plural of *cochylium, a vulgar form of conchylium "a cockle-shell".
The lenition of c (written ch) to g implies the word is a direct  
borrowing from Latin.
Since the form *cocla, *coclys and kuligi are different (albeit  
related) words, they should be kept separate.
