Lew 'lion' is confined to Old Cornish.

The Middle Cornish word is lion:

 

<lyon> PA 21c

<lyon> TH 3a

<luon> BK 1777.

 

The use in PA in particular (and the disyllabic form is necessary for the
rhyme) seems to indicate that <lyon> had replaced <lew> very early.
