Usually -lc'h / -rc'h in Breton but -la / -ra in Welsh go back to forms with an orthographic g, phonetically an approximant /gh/: Breton gwalc'h, Welsh gwala "sufficiency"; Breton erc'h, Welsh eira "snow". The /gh/ was devoiced to /x/ in Breton, but vocalized to /a/ in Welsh.

So did Breton acquire the final /-x/ or did Cornish and Welsh lose it?
