The question is what do the texts do?
Tregear is relevant here because he has much connected narrative.
Notice that he uses fatell with the first verb in the following
passage and then allows the following verbs
to be in unreported speech:
y thew scriffys fatell rug agan Savyour, wosa y resurreccion, apperia
in mor
in tyllar gylwys Tiberias the certan ay abosteleth, ha yn aga mysk yth
esa Pedyr, ha ena eff a
gemeras kynsa bara ha puscas. haga ros ran the appostlis
"it is written that our Saviour, after his resurrection, appeared by
the sea in a place called
Tiberian to certain of his apostles, and among them was Peter, and
then he took bread
and fish, and gave part of them to the apostles' TH 42a
fatell wrug...apperia is reported speech but yth esa, eff a gemeras
and a ros are not.
In this passage the reported speech is not actually reported:
sow du a wore peskytter may tepprow anythy why a vith kepar ha du
hagys lagasow a vith clerys ha why a vith
kepar ha duow hag ara gotthfes an drog han da "but God knows as soon
as you eat of it you will be like God and
your eyes will be made clear and you will be like gods and will know
the evil and the good" TH 3a
I think we should imitate Tregear.
