[Spellyans] y-umlaut in 'Beunans Meriasek' ?

The variation between <ij>, <yy>, <ye> on the one hand and <y>, <i> on  
the other is probably etymological.
I cannot believe that the unstressed syllable in, say, temptys, sawys,  
ledys was long.
An examination of rhymes and LCornish spellings would, I think,  
indicate that the syllable was short.
